Incorrect time zone in iCal causing event time changes

Just got my clinical rotation for school and trying to put in the dates/times and I noticed that iCal is still putting my laptop as in a different time zone. I was in a different time zone recently, and I've tried to correct it but it refuses to believe that yes we are in fact not still back there. We are in a new time zone. It's a little important that I have this correct since not showing up could mean not passing the course and getting my degree. This is why I still use paper and an actual calendar and do not depend on technology. I've turned on and off the time zone assisting and restarted my computer. all to zero avail. It still thinks it's somewhere else. This has been going on for a month, I keep correcting and it keeps modifying the time.

Maybe Apple should focus on making better software rather than consuming the earth by constantly making new phones and advertising how great they are. Make something that is useable.
