I am interested in purchasing a new MacBook Pro using my Apple credit card. I want to do the monthly installments. Right now I am only required to pay $79 for the initial payment. Am I able to pay more during the initial payment to lower my monthly payment ?

Making additional payments on an ACMI plan requires the card balance be $0. Once the card balance is zero, any additional payments made will be credited to the oldest ACMI.
