Understanding the 'Look Up' feature on iPhone

I was curious what the “lookup” feature was on iOS? Is this something like google lens, of so why is it blurred out for me on petty much everything, and it’s not just on my current iPhone, which I have currently, but this was also an issue on my 12. The feature was blurred out on all photos, either on the web or locally taken.

You didn't say what iOS you are using.


For iOS 18 I get this when I touch the critter in the picture:

which offers "Look Up." If you tap that, I get the stuff on the right above, telling me that this is a Pete David' Deer. That's what Look Up is for.


Visual Lookup is turned on at

Settings>Search>Show Related Content
