Double click on Apple Calendar's event, a new event created instead of popping up event details

* reposting old (closed) thread from 2023 as identical problem happening to me in 2025 *

Hello everyone,

This has been a annoying little thing for a few years now.

Apple calendar is the very main production planning app for me, but there is one little annoying bugs/ whatever it is that decrease a lot of my working flow.

Normally, when you are using the Apple calendar, when you double click on a event, the details/ info of the event will pop up, and allow you to change the event name, calendar type time and else quickly. (which is very fluent on the work flow)

And you could just use OPTION + mouse drag to duplicate a event on the calendar. (another smooth work function)

BUT!

BUT!

Somehow, sometimes there will be events that just cut you from doing this.

When you double click on these random events, instead of popping up a event details/ info, it just create another blank event.

and if you try to OPTION + mouse drag these random events, instead of duplicating, it extend the events.

Is there anyone out there who's suffering from this?

Try force clicking the event instead of double clicking.

Force click

On a Mac with a Force Touch trackpad, you can force click (press firmly on the trackpad until you feel a deeper click) an item to take an action. For example, you can force click a file in the Finder to preview it, or force click a word in a webpage or an app to look up its definition and other information.

hi sberman

doesnt work tried that. only "solution" so far is deleting the event and re-entering details/creating a new event. absolutely infuriating this is a known problem with countless threads for years strewn over the internet forums...

one pattern ive found is it seem to happen with events which are created using pre-emptive/predictive text so eg: you goto create a new event and start typing "dental procedure..." and if a previous event was titled "dental procedure" iCal.app prompts to duplicate that event description for the 'new' event... when creating events from scratch or ignoring the predictive text/suggested text dont seem to have problems editing events.
