Integrated webcam monitor with Mac Mini M4

I am looking to buy an M4 Mac Mini but would prefer to have a monitor with an integrated webcam rather than a separate peripheral. Will this be a simple plug and play situation for any monitor with an integrated webcam or could there be trouble ahead for me?!

The screens I am looking at are:

  1. Philips 5000 Series 34E1C5600HE
  2. Dell P2724DEB
  3. AOC V5 **34V5CW
  4. AOC Q27V5CW
  5. LG 27BA850

Thanks very much for any help.

Even if you choose a display with a webcam, where the vendor provides drivers or software to control the integrated webcam on macOS, you are at the mercy of that vendor keeping that software updated and current for the current macOS. Failing that, you have an expensive display with no webcam.

In the case of Dell, they may limit their driver/software updates to the current and previous two releases of macOS as many vendors are now trending too.

I have an LG 32-inch 32UN880-B 4K display here with a Logitech C920 Pro web cam perched on top of it. No drivers and utterly reliable with a USB connection to my M4 Mac Mini Pro.

My new mini has no microphone or camera. I only would use one about once every 6 months so I am just saving money by not buying either. I can use my iPhone if I ever need audio or video. I don't think I activated the built-in webcam on my iMac a single time in the 4 or 5 years I used it.

Anybody need a no longer needed 4"x4" square of aluminum foil? :-)
