How do i set up a passkey for my Apple iCloud acount on my iMac

I know that Apple supports passkeys on iOS devices, but I want to set up a passkey for my Apple iCloud account on my iMac via chrome and I cannot find a link to do that. Some other websites have "Create a Passkey" under their "Change password" option, but I cannot find that in my iCloud page or in my Apple Account page. It seems odd that Apple would not offer this as a log-in option. Thanks.

When I go to icloud.com in Chrome on my desktop iMac, it asks me to sign in. It offers two options: Use a passkey (requires iOS 17 or later) or a password. Apparently I could set up a passkey on my phone or tablet, but in Chrome on the iMac it will not set up a passkey? That seems odd. Or am I missing something?

Similarly, to post here on discussions.apple, I had to sign in. In both cases, my computer being a trusted device does not eliminate the need to sign in with a password. And I have not found a way to set up a passkey instead.
