VLC 3.0.21 compatibility with M-chip macOS Sequoia

Hi folks,

from what I read about VLC, starting with version 3.0.20, VLC is said to be compatible with silicon macs from the M1 release forward. However, when wanting to open the latest VLC version (3.0.21) in macOS Sequoia 15.5, I am asked to use Rosetta (which I don't want). In fact, the newest available dmg (downloaded from videolan's website) is labelled "vlc-3.0.21-intel64". So where is VLCs M-chip compatibility? Am I really to resort to elmedia?

Try the "vlc-3.0.21-arm64.dmg" download instead.

Thanks for the tip. Exactly which browser settings do I need to check?

Don't go chasing rabbits. There's nothing you need to check. The VLC website is just poorly coded and the VLC app itself is poorly made. They could have simply listed the two different versions and allowed people to click on the correct one instead of trying to guess and then guessing wrong. (It offers Intel for my M2 MacBook Air.)

Or, even better, they could just do like practically every other developer has done and build a universal binary so users wouldn't have this problem. You can't fix other people's screw ups.

It could depend upon your browser and privacy features you select. I believe that typically a web site can ask your browser about your hardware which is why for me it just presented the silicon version automatically (I could easily have selected any of the other platforms presented as icons underneath). Perhaps your browser isn't reporting the full information.
