Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then press it again to restart. If that doesn’t work, connect it to charger and wait a few minutes, sometimes the system applies updates silently in the background.


If there's still no response, try booting into macOS Recovery by holding Command (⌘) + R at startup. From there, use Disk Utility to check the startup disk for errors. If the disk is fine, try reinstalling macOS without erasing your data. Don’t jump straight to wiping the drive, check these recovery options first.

Mac not Booting:


A. Keyboard Shortcut:

Try holding down [F5 + the Power button] upon boot. You may have to hold down the fn button along with these. It works for many.

C. Let Charge for a Bit:

Maybe the power is out? Charge it for a few hours, and then see if it boots.


D. Report this to Apple:

Do your Part: Report this to AppleApple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback Apple receives on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in upcoming updates.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all started after installing an update, and how you have troubleshot it thus far. Include the URL of this thread.
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
