You say that you have a Mac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014). Target Display Mode went away when that Mac – the first Retina iMac – came out. Apple later added restrictions such that no current Mac supports using any iMac as a Target Display.

If you are asking if you can use your iMac as a monitor for your new mini, the short answer is "No".
You'll need to buy a proper monitor for the Mac mini.

the good news though is that an imac even if acting as display for another mac would be using a lot! more power than a normal "real" monitor
