How do I report a scam targeting Apple customers?

I received this text today: Apple Approval Notice

We have noticed that your Apple iCloud id was recently used at "APPLE STORE - CA" for $143.95, paid by Apple Pay Pre Authorization. Also some suspicious sign in request and apple pay activation request detected. That looks like suspicious to us. In order to maintain the security and privacy of your account we have placed those request on hold. Your Photos, Data, Bank Information and Cards are at risk. If NOT you? talk to an Apple Representative. Failing may lead to auto debit and charge will not be reversed. Call +1*********  immediately to cancel this charge.

Good job in identifying and questioning that attempted scam.

Some key points in a scam:

  1. That message never mentioned you by name.
  2. That phone number directs you to a scammer who is (most likely) working in an organized scam call center in another country.
  3. You were not charged $143.95. Your payment details were never used.
  4. Bad grammar is not the only reason to suspect that message.

That’s all the evidence you need to block, report and delete the message.

Again, good job in identifying that scam and questioning the message.

In closing:

If you receive a suspicious email or SMS text message that looks like it's supposed to be from Apple, please email it to reportphishing@apple.com. 

It's a scam. As mentioned, forward it to reportphishing@apple.com and delete it.

You and many other people have received that same message. Android users have even reported getting the same scam message. All you need to do is delete it and you can report it if you wish using the information already provided. If you called the number and gave them your personal information, you will need to follow up with what you disclosed to make sure all of your accounts are secured.
