Unable to purchase online with IMac OS Sequoia 15.4.1 using Apple Pay

Please follow this path,

iPhone > Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > scroll down > Allow Payments on Mac > try switching off and on your iPhone and restarting both your Mac and your iPhone.

There’s something wrong here. Doesn’t your iMac use Touch ID? Are you not using the process described in “Make purchases” in the article I linked above? If so, no iPhone is required, and in fact the iPhone is irrelevant to the process.

Wow, this. Is confusing. Here is why.

• “When trying to purchase online using iMac and ApplePay…” - what do you see at this point on your iMac?
• ”…instead of being able to click on iPhone 15 to complete the transaction” - no, the iPhone should have nothing to do with this process!
• “…a message appears on iPhone screen to hold the iPhone closer to the reader!” Yes, this makes sense as the iPhone has absolutely no involvement in this transaction.

Well, that’s the starting point for troubleshooting this issue. What else have you tried so we know which direction to go? There are Mac issues that could be at play here too. Specifically which Mac are you using? Do you have an Apple Keyboard with Touch ID?
