On a Mac Mini M2
With FCPX open, I am trying to move a file from one event to another event, within the same library.
I have done this for years, and it has always moved the file, not copied it.
Now it is copying it.
I want it to move the file.
Anyone know what's going on? Thanks!

Dragging to another event within the same library normally moves; with Option key held down, it should copy. So no, in the situation you describe you were not supposed to be holding the Option key; it is just that if you were, it would have explained why a copy was taking place.
Can you post screenshots of what you're seeing in interface that shows where you're dragging from and where you're dragging to? Or if possible a screen satire that you could are on YouTube or similar. Also, what exactly apps when you move the file. On my system if I drag a file from one event to another, the file moves and I'm now in then event I moved it to. Is that what you're seeing?
Hold the Option/Alt key and try it. Does that copy or move the clips?
First, verify you're using the default keyboard command set.
Final Cut Pro > Command Sets > Default.
Second, go to System Settings > Keyboard Shortcut, then click the Restore Defaults button.
Relaunch FCP and see if it's working correctly.

yes, only one library is open. this has been going on for a few months now. so it's not just this project.
Are you holding down the option key down when dragging the clip to the new Event?

Have you trashed your settings? Hold Opt-Cmd as you relaunch the application.
