iPad MDM Enrollment Fails after ABM and Configurator Setup
Hi all,
I am an IT administrator with full access to Apple Business Manager and Miradore. I’m having trouble enrolling an iPad (A16, Wi-Fi only, 128GB) into a Supervised MDM using Apple Configurator 2 and Miradore. The iPad is getting stuck at the Remote Management screen during Setup Assistant with an “Invalid Profile” message, followed by this error:
[MCProfileErrorDomain - 0x3E8 (1000)]
Steps I’ve Taken:
- Used Apple Configurator 2 to add the iPad to Apple Business Manager.
- Confirmed it appears in ABM as sourced from Apple Configurator.
- In ABM, I manually changed the MDM Server assignment dropdown to my Miradore MDM server.
In Miradore:
- The iPad appears under Apple Device Enrollment > Assigned, but still shows as Not Enrolled.
- It is assigned to the default configuration profile (“iPad (Default)”).
- Attempted to complete setup on the iPad — it stops at Remote Management with:
“The configuration for your iPad could not be downloaded.”
Eventually shows:
[MCProfileErrorDomain - 0x3E8 (1000)]
- I've confirmed the MDM payload is present in the profile.
- The iPad is Wi-Fi only, and the profile includes a Wi-Fi payload.
- No VPN, web clips, or email payloads are included.
- I’ve erased and restored the iPad multiple times via Apple Configurator.
So I'm in a road block here... what specific causes trigger the MCProfileErrorDomain - 0x3E8 (1000) during Remote Management? All my certificates and trusts between Miradore and ABM are up to date.
NOTE: I've also never had this issue with any previous iPads until the current generation, the A16, came out. Is there something that may have changed under the hood with this variant that requires me tweaking any settings on either Configurator or Miradore?
Appreciate any advice or diagnostics — I’m happy to share profile details or console logs if that would help.
Thanks!
iPad (10th generation)
