Drag and drop not working on my iMac running macOS Sequoia 15.4.1

Within the last two weeks, it has increasingly difficult and at times impossible to drag and drop files. I am frustrated because all of the online help has been ineffective or, offers advice on a trackpad which I DO NOT USE! My iMac is a 2019 model running Sequoia 15.4.1. Has a 6-core Intel i5. I use a wired keyboard and a wifi Logitech mouse. I have force quit finder (many suggestions) to no avail. I cannot select portions of a screen with Skitch or with the built in Apple function. I can live without screen capture but it is a useless computer if I cannot manage files. This happened to my previous iMac and was told by an authorized Apple service provider that it was a hardware issue and could not be fixed. Bought the current one and same thing. I have been running Sequoia for at least six months with no previous issues. Have run First Aid, blah, blah blah to no avail. Hard to believe that I have experienced this issue on two consecutive units. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions that do not require a computer engineering degree?

Since this is not something that others are experiencing, it seems far more likely to be something in your particular software installation. Just imagine if nobody could drag and drop, a task that everyone has to do.

The fact that this carries over from one mac to another reinforces the conviction that it is something in your software setup. Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

Always use a Logitech. When this started happening I tried two different wired Logitech and a magic mouse. Nothing changed.

When you tried the Magic Mouse, did you uninstall the Logitech software? It should not have interfered with, but if you’ve had two Macs with the sam problem and both were with a third-party mouse that requires a system modification to work, it doesn’t seem coincidental.

The Logitech mouse should work with either Bluetooth directly, or with a small wireless dongle. A mouse shouldn't need a driver in these days, and macOS will recognize it without a problem.

What could go on here is some issue with the "holding" down of the mouse button in order to initiate a drag. It would be helpful to get a more detailed description of what exactly is going wrong when you say difficult or impossible to drag and drop files.

To ensure there are no conflicting settings, I would recommend to look here:

Settings > Mouse > Secondary click: Turn it either off for a while to test if the left click (primary click) is working properly.

Settings > Accessibility > Pointer Control: There are options for Trackpad. If you see those, I would recommend to turn off "use trackpad for dragging".

Well that honeymoon did not last long. Back to the same frustrations. Just realized that I did not mention in original post that not only does drag and drop not work but, cannot resize an open window. Just moves the open window around the desktop or, tries to capture it for some reason. Again, this was the reason I bought this mac in 2019. The previous one had the same behaviors and the Apple Service provider said it was some type of controller issue on the motherboard and would not be cost effective to fix. Another bit of info I failed to mention. Sorry. So, right now I am of the opinion that this is a hardware issue and has nothing to do with software. Question: Does anyone from Apple read these things?
