Why isn't my voice to text working on my iPhone after recent update?

Voice to text won’t work on my phone anymore. Is it a setting or because of a recent update? How can i fix this?

Please test each of the following features individually to determine if they resolve the issue:

  1. Enable Voice Over, and check if the problem is fixed. If not, disable Voice Over.
  2. Enable Spoken Content, and check if the problem is fixed. If not, disable Spoken Content.
  3. Enable Dictation, and check if the problem is fixed.

With VoiceOver—a gesture-based screen reader—you can use iPhone even if you can't see the screen. VoiceOver gives audible descriptions of what's on your screen—from battery level, to who's calling, to which app your finger is on. You can also adjust the speaking rate and pitch to suit your needs.

Turn on and practice VoiceOver on iPhone - Apple Support (IN)

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content. Adjust any of the following: Speak Selection: To hear text you selected, tap the Speak button. Speak Screen: To hear the entire screen, swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen.

Hear iPhone speak the screen, selected text, and typing ...

On your device, go to Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Typing Feedback. From here, you can turn on the following: Character feedback: Turn on Characters to have your device speak letters as you type.

Use Typing Feedback on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Turn on Dictation

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard. Turn on Enable Dictation.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution!

Was/Is your device Jailbroken? If that's the situation, please be informed that attributing the issues to iOS updates may not be accurate.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.

My phone automatically updated and the next day, voice to text quit working, I didn’t say it was the IOS update’s fault, I asked if it could be. If not, huge coincidence!

Before I asked for help, I checked settings to try to see if something got inadvertently changed. Dictation was on. I don’t do voice over or spoken content, so not them either.

I had to look it up, but I’ve never done anything to “jailbreak” my phone.

We figured out somehow Siri got corrupted and had to be reset. It’s working again now.

Thanks again

Do you know any solution to the volume being too low? Volume limit is not on. I can’t hear good with it to my ear or on a bluetooth speaker. I have had several iPhones and don’t remember ever having this much trouble hearing voice or music on it.
