Capturing Video from DSR-11 Sony DVCam to FCP 10.8.1

Hum Luis, you're right. Being away from my work station, I've made a mistake in adaptor description and forgot the belkin cable. Thank you for your eagle's eye.

Here's the exact Apple part numbers of my setup:

1) Connected to FireWire 400 IEEE 1394a camcorder's port: A Belkin Firewire 800/400 9 pin to 6 pin cable

2) At other cable's end: A Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, part model A1463

3) Connected to the first adapter, A Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to thunderbolt 2 adapter, part MMEL2AM/A

4) Connected in my iMac Thunderbolt 3 port.

Yes. I use the FireWire 400 4 to 6 pins cable connected to my Sony handycam FX1, with a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 adaptor and a second FireWire 800 to thunderbolt (USB C) adaptor connected to my iMac intel 5k 2020. I can use the transport control and capture material from HDV tapes within FCP easily.

Great! As a suggestion, always make a zip of your existing version of FCP before updating. This is always good practice in case there is a problem with an update, but even more so when you rely on old tech, as Apple may drop support for it at any point in time.

Can you tell us more about this adapter? I was only aware of a two-adapter setup (FW800-TB2 and TB2-TB3), I had never heard of an adapter to connect FW800 to a TB3 (USB C connector).

This is the combination that I knew of. The pictures should help the OP to know exactly what he needs. The difficulty may be in finding some of these. At least in my country (Portugal), the online Apple store does not offer the TB2<->FW800 adapter anymore.

Yes, we must find a used one and they are pretty expensive on eBay. 😩
