Why is my iPad not showing in locations on MacBook after recent updates?

My iPad shows that it is charging from the MacBook but it does not show in Locations.

My iPhone shows that it is charging from the MacBook and does show in Locations.

All three devices have the most recent updates. This problem began right after the updates on all the devices.

I have restarted all devices, done a factory reset on my iPad, made sure I am in the same iCloud account on all devices, check the finders sidebar options on my MacBook to make sure it is set correctly, made sure all the airplay/handoff things are correct (in the event airplay might work). I have tried multiple cables to connect the iPad to the MacBook and am going directly into both (no hubs).

I had the same problem on an iMac running 13.7.4, and the original iPad pro running IOS 16.6. The two were connected via a generic USB2 cable. Test the cables to ensure they are powering other devices.

Here was the solution that worked for me:

1) Open a finder window.

2) Ensure that locations is visible in the left side bar. Your ipad will show up here (hopefully).

3) Select Finder

4) Select Settings

5) Select Sidebar

6) Look down the list, and check the box in the locations subsection that says: CDs, DVDs, and iOS Devices

7) Close the finder settings window, and your iOS device should appear under locations on the left sidebar.
