MacBook Pro M4 not detecting external screens via Maxor Thunderbolt 3 cables

I have the same setup at work and home, using 2 x 3221QSA with 2 x Maxor Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cables. I just migrated from a Macbook Pro M3 chip - the displays at both locations worked without issue on this mac.

On the new Macbook Pro M4 pro chip with 24GB memory, these displays are not detecting. I have to restart in order for the displays to appear. If i move to home, plug in the screens, they will not show, or just one will display with the other being undetected. i unplug, switch screens on and off to no avail.

Rebooting the mac with cables inserted is the only way for them to show. this is highly annoying and time consuming.

Dell 3221QSA screen - Display port to Macbrook Pro 16" M4 Thunderbolt (Type-C) port utilising the cable above. As mentioned, this worked seamlessly with both the Macbook Pro 16 M2/M3 chips.

In order for both the ports to work at the same time e.g 2 screens, the laptop has to be restarted, but when changing between home and office setups(same screen and cables) only one port works. Using function to detect displays does nothing.

just to add to avoid confusion, there is no dock. it is direct cable from screen to mac.
