Can AirPods be used as a Hearing Aid with only one ear?

After three conversations with Apple Support, I learned that I need two ears for the AirPods to work as a hearing aid. I had to have my left ear completely removed because of a cancerous growth, so there is no canal for me to insert an AirPod. Made the wrong assumption assuming that I could setup one AirPod and use it as a hearing aid. Wondering if I could find a fake ear to insert the AirPod, small enough for me to carry around in my pocket.

Thank you kindly for sharing your findings with the community.

I understood from the discussion below that we can use just one airPod for listening once both are paired,

but apparently not with the hearing-aid feature.

All the best :-)
