Mouse and Trackpad stopped working on my MacBook Pro running Sequoia 15.4
I logged bug FB16057810 on this issue on December 26, 2024. This began after a MacOS update. Sometimes, restarting finder fixes it. Sometimes, the trackpad works but not the mouse. Sometimes, I can drag the cursor with the mouse, but I can't click. Sometimes, the mouse resumes working after a few minutes.
This just occurred again. I have two Apple Magic Mice. Neither would move the cursor or click. The trackpad also could not move the cursor. That indicates that it has nothing to do with Bluetooth since the trackpad is on the MacBook Pro. I had to force shutdown and restart to get it to clear.
When this happens, I am usually using AirPlay. AirPlay has been very buggy for quite a while. I have logged many bugs, but only one has been fixed so far. An example of a bug that happens every time I mirror to the Roku Streaming Stick on my TV is that the positions of the file icons on the desktop on the MacBook Pro become scrambled, though those on my external monitor, which is what I'm mirroring, are not. When I turn AirPlay off, the file icons return to their normal positions. One would think this bug would be easy to reproduce and fix, but, as far as I can see, nobody at Apple has even looked at it. It is either a Finder bug or a bug caused by the interaction of AirPlay with Finder.
MacOS used to be relatively bug-free, but the last few versions have been filled with bugs, some of which never seem to be addressed by Apple. This is extremely frustrating.
