Apple did release the Apple Log conversion LUT at the time of iPhone 15 Pro and you can find it among downloads on Apple Developer website (just don't search via built in search, you'll find nothing, use Google) but that LUT yields horrible skintone colors with iPhone 16 Pro/Pro max footage and is no longer usable. There is a built-in LUT inside the Final Cut Pro which is automatically applied to iphone LOG footage, and its good, but no way to extract it and use with custom LUT effect thus not possible to apply color wheel corrections BEFORE the LUT in Final Cut Pro. Below is Chat GPT's take on the problem:
The downloadable Apple Log to Rec.709 LUT (v1) from the Apple Developer site was created for the iPhone 15 Pro, and while it works technically, it doesn’t always look right on iPhone 16 Pro footage, especially with Apple Log — users have reported:
- Weird skintones (especially reddish or magenta shifts)
- Blown-out highlights or dull mids
- Inconsistent rendering of subtle contrast zones
The LUT used inside Final Cut Pro 10.7+ is new, more accurate, and definitely different — but Apple has not yet published it as a .cube file.
😫 The Problem:
Apple doesn’t expose the built-in LUT as a file — and it’s not accessible via any known Finder path, not even by digging into the app bundle or temporary render caches. It appears that FCP:
- Loads it dynamically via an internal color processing engine
- Refers to it using an identifier like com.apple.cameralut.applelog.rec709 (invisible to the user)
- Applies it silently in the render pipeline, not as an external file
So unfortunately: Final Cut Pro will not let you export or reveal the built-in LUT the same way you could in other NLEs or camera apps.
