Some time after pairing my bluetooth headset (Sony WH-1000XM3) with my Mac book air it stops from outputing sound to the headphones although they are connected. Looking at the system sound settings the headphones does not show as an output option although they are clearly connected. Is there any other option to fix this than re-pairing the headphones? Could this be fixed by Apple?

It seems to me that re-pairing the headset would be the simplest and first fix to try. If it works then there's nothing else to do.
You don't say what version of macOS the computer is running. Please make sure that it is the current version of that OS. Install any update that may be waiting. It's possible that an update may include a bug fix that resolves the problem.

Thanks, I have the latest updates installed and repairing works for a while but then it goes back to the same behavior after some time.
