My external Blu-Ray/DVD drives won't mount discs now.

I'm not sure what's going on. I have two external Blu-Ray drives and no disks will mount.

One is an LG BE14NU40 and the other is a slim Archgon md-8107s-u3-uhd.

The last time I used them to rip a Blu-Ray three months ago, they both worked fine. Now the disc will load, I'll hear the drive working but it will not mount in finder.

I've tried retarting, different ports etc.

The weird thing is, before I realized it wasn't mounting, I was able to burn a Blu-Ray disc (using Wondershare) and it went through the entire burn process, though wouldn't play on my standalone player. That player gave me an error that basically said it "wasn't finalized". That disc as well, did not appear in finder.

I'm running a fully maxed out M4 Macbook Pro with Sequoia 15.3.2

When either drive is connected do you see any error messages? Are you using either an adapter or hub to connect these drives to your Mac?

If you go to System Information > Hardware > USB > LG or Archgon drive, and look at the following:

  • Current Available (mA)
  • Current Required (mA),

does the first value exceed that of the second?

Not sure if this is related but my OS has been giving me an issue with ejecting SSD drives and SD cards where it says it can't eject and I have to force eject it.

I called Apple and the woman was not very knowledgable and said it has to be my drive's problem and that it's "okay to force eject"

No problem.

Ok, based on the screenshot, the only device that is shown connected is your Ivanky docking station and two monitors connected to it. Neither of your DVD drives are showing up on these ports either.

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with the Ivanky dock so I can't offer much there. You did mention earlier that you connected your Archgon directly to one of your Mac's Thunderbolt 5 ports and it still is not properly recognized by macOS. Is the reason you could not connect the LG drive directly to one of these ports because it has a USB-A connector and your Ivanky dock has the same physical type USB port?

Regardless, at this point, I'm at a bit of a loss as to why neither drive is being recognized. As such, do you have an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider near you so that you can take these drives, along with your laptop, to see if they can assist you with this?
