My phone and my husbands phone keeps dropping the WiFi when we put the phone down . It’s fine when I’m using it but when I go back to it I have to select the network and re enter the password . This is happening all day long ..

It's normal for Wifi to disconnect when the phone is locked, unless it is connected to power as in charging. What is not normal is having to reenter passwords to get back into whatever network you are connected to. Open the Settings App > Wifi > Ask to Join Networks - what is checked there?
Finally, do you or your husband use a VPN on your iPhone? If you do and you aren't required by your employer or school to have one, DUMP IT. Don't just turn it off, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management and remove the VPN profile. They aren't needed on iPhone and don't provide the security people think they do.
Ask to join networks is turned off .. is this correct . I had a VPN for travel but it was turned off . I have deleted as you said so hopefully this may rectify it .. fingers crossed. I have had to put the password in over 20 times today .
Mine is set to Notify and I never have to re-enter Wifi passwords. And hopefully, deleting the VPN profile will also help
