Seeking opinions for a basic Mac mini M4 setup with Dell 4K monitor, keyboard, and mouse
Hi,
Been a while since I've been on here asking for help fixing my 2006 intel which eventually lasted 14 years.
Then I've been on asking questions regarding 2011 iMacs as they are the last ones that i like and are pretty easy to get into and diagnose problems and replace parts. I think I've had 5 or 6 and more if i include ones I've bought faulty, then fixed and sold.
The one i have now has a 1TB SSD inside with 32GB RAM just to give it a boost given its age. But time has past quickly and technology has improved so it's struggling and giving me problems. I'm getting older now and my interest in solving problems with technology be it computers, phones, tablets or whatever is over so i just want a cheap Mac that works without problems.
Obviously I'd love a Mac Pro even though i have no need for that amount of power but it would look good next to my double 6K screens which again would just look good.
So I think the basic Mac Mini M4 at £600 (£539 just now) would do the job as i don't use my computers for Photo and video work like i used to as my life has changed over the last few years and my Cameras are sitting here with dust on them which i don't like. My mountain bikes have been serviced every year but they too are not being used which i can't explain. Love my bikes. They are my vision of "Art" and they do hang on the walls yes but frameless with the exception of their own frames.
I'm a qualified bicycle mechanic so i service them all. My working hours are flexible and of no interest to me if I'm honest. Yeah my life has changed a lot since 2019 and dealing with old computer problems isn't for me.
I don't own a TV so anything i watch comes through the computer. Thinking maybe I should be on another website right now..........
So the Mini with a 27" 4K Dell USB-C monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse that I'll choose later, looks fine to me. Anyone have similar setup or own the Mac or Monitor? Maybe recommend different models or a decent keyboard and mouse that are not made by Apple. Indestructible ones would be good as I have broken a few accessories/iPhones/iMacs over the years. Once a black Glass computer table broke when i hit my Mac with a self made Replica 'American Psycho' polished head axe that maybe was too sharp just to be mounted on the wall under a original UK poster for the film. It survived but i do wish i hadn't hit my two Lacie Porsche edition, backup drives in their lovely metal boxes. That one brought the Police to my door!
It's a good release destroying something that isn't working as expected. It's costly but it's to late after you throw your 4 months old iPhone into the dark forest because it's winter, freezing cold and you puncture on a trail with no lights as all seven have died one by one as you stayed out too long and the light on the phone was my lifeline to change tubes and cycle the 7 miles home. But at 51% battery on a new phone it lasted three minutes till it died and was then called a few names and off it went back into nature, leaving me alone in the dark, minus 9 degree temperature dying of thirst because my water containers were frozen and i still had a flat. Great night though really. Changed the tube, inflated it and rode the trail back in the dark, had a few off's on the way and ordered new phone about four hours later.
Good times but that was then and now I'm asking if that setup of Basic Mac Mini, Dell 4K monitor, KB and mouse will be good enough to be a basic user of the internet, browsing, torrenting, Popping over to the Dark net to pick up some things to get me through the day or night while i watch the 4K version of Terminator 2 on my new mac mini and 27" 4K monitor with a lot of numbers and letters in Dells description.
Anyone want to share? I'm honestly looking for a second opinion with third, forth & fifth to follow.
Be buying it soon so be good if anyone could comment after reading my journal entry that my therapist insists on every day. I'll copy and paste now.....
Cheers.
JP.
