Apple Wallet app is missing on iPad mini after iPadOS 18 update

Brand-new iPad Mini, installed newest iOS 18 as part of setup, which included entering card info. But, the Wallet icon/app has vanished. All Wallet info, cards, etc., are still visible in Settings. But, no Wallet anywhere.

Wallet is still visible on my iPhone.

I need it back on this new iPad.

The absence of the Apple Wallet app on your iPad mini after updating to iPadOS 18 is expected behavior. The Wallet app is exclusive to iPhone and Apple Watch devices due to hardware requirements, specifically NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities, which are not present in any iPad models .

While iPads do not have the Wallet app, you can still manage payment methods for online purchases. To do this, navigate to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay on your iPad. Here, you can add and manage credit or debit cards for use in apps and on websites that support Apple Pay .

For storing and accessing items like boarding passes or event tickets, consider using the respective airline or event apps, as they often provide similar functionalities tailored for iPad users.

You can't lose something that your iPad has never had...

The Wallet App is unique to iPhone due to hardware…

The iPhone Wallet uses NFC to wirelessly communicate with physical Point of Sale (PoS) terminals - NFC being the mechanism used by ApplePay (and Google’s Android equivalent) to securely exchange registered Credit Card details and authorise a payment.

The Apple Wallet App has dependency upon NFC hardware which is absent from all models of iPad. Consequently, the Wallet App is not available for iPad. Whilst perhaps a moot point, consider the practicalities of attempting to bring a specific area of an iPad (which may be sizeable) within close range of a PoS terminal!

Whilst iPad does not have a Wallet App per-se, iPad does have Wallet in iPad settings. Here you can register Credit Cards for ApplePay - but this is not intended for NFC. Instead, iPad is able to participate in remote e-commerce payments - such as a website.
