How to display geolocation information in photos on iPhone?

I stopped displaying geolocation information in photos. If earlier you could swipe an open photo up, a map would be displayed, but now this information is not there. How did anyone fix this? Has anyone encountered this? I did not change any settings in the camera

"But the solution doesn’t connect to iOS and last update. Gps data disappeared again when I set Face ID on Photo app. "

A user in another discussion reported, that the Face ID needs to be turned off in the Settings > Apps > Photos.

It appears that trying to protect Hidden and Recently Deleted by Face ID will also turn off the locations and detected faces from showing on iOS 15.4 on some iPhone models. That is either a bug or a poor design.

Is this on a Mac, or an iPhone, or an iPad? What OS are you using? "Swipe" seems to imply iPhone, but we're not sure. Is the lack of a map true for all you pictures, or just some? New ones or old? Is the GPS information itself missing from the metadata of the picture, or is it just the map that's empty? Is the map area missing altogether?

Does it say "Add a Location?"

It helps if you can give more information.

Where are you currently? Could it be caused by a temporary GPS disturbance, due to GPS spoofing or jamming because of the ongoing war between Russia and the Ukraine?

Around the Baltic Sea or Black Sea are now frequently problems with the GPS .

Of course not.. It sounds like intermittent access to GPS or the internet or both.

Have you tried a forced restart?

Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

This is different from a simple Power Off. I had to continue holding the button down past the "slide to power off" message, and then I released the button only after  the Apple Logo appeared indicating a re-start.

Let us know what happens…

Wow-- I hadn't thought of WAR being a Photos problem!

The fact that you don't see "Add a Location" means, I think, that there is a GPS location recorded with the picture, but Photos can't translate that to a map location. There may not be strong internet, or the location information may be interrupted, as léonie suggests. I'm surprised, though, that pictures for which Photos had already assigned locations are blank. Did this happen with an upgrade, where Photos might have to rescan? That might make sense…

I don't know how iOS handles the GPS data, when GPS spoofing or jamming occurs, and if iOS can recognize, when it cannot trust the GPS signal.

A good point, Richard. It would help to know, how long it has been, since Ruzznet has upgraded to iOS 18 and which version is currently installed.

If the library is large, it may take a while for the locations to reappear, directly after the upgrade to iOS 18.
