Renaming items opened in Preview refuse to be saved to Desktop

I open, say, a screenshot I've taken in Preview and then click to change the title. The titles instantly reverts to something like "Screenshot 2025-04-14 at 12.37.17 PM.jpg" and ignores my re-titleing. It also won't save to Desktop. I can drag it to Documents, edit the name there, and then drag it to the Desktop. What is going on?

No, I usually get a notification for a new update. I don’t see an update offer in the App Store which shows no results for Sequoia 15.4
