Apple Watch burn issue

Apple series 9 watch.

April 2025 issue

I’ve had this watch since it came out, never had any issues until recently.

I wear the watch daily, and have been cleaning it as per their instructions on a regular basis. Have not used any new cleaner since I bought it. Last evening, I was awoken in the middle of the night by the feeling of my wrist burning were the watch was located.

That morning I had what appeared to be burn marks where the sensors are located on the watch. Needless to say it was painful.

I contacted Apple, as i have Apple care that day. They instructed me to go into a local Apple Store and they opened a file.

After spending several hours, there, they informed me that there’s nothing they could do as diagnostics did not show any issues. In fact, when the apple employee looked at my file that was created from the phone conversation the day it had already been noted as an allergic reaction for some reason? How they came to this conclusion I have no idea.

I asked if they could replace the watch, under AppleCare, and you can clearly see the burn mark on my arm. They informed me they could not as diagnostics did not show anything. My question to them was it may not show anything, but I have physical evidence of a burn caused by the watch that overheated by the sensors. Again, the response is there is nothing they could do. Has this happened to anybody else?

Stop wearing it and go see your dermatologist, or at least your regular doctor.

It’s happened often enough the multiple physicians have posted videos on YouTube about it. Here’s a short 30 second one.

Please make an appointment with your primary care physician and get a diagnosis of your condition. Your Dr. may refer you to an allergist or dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.

Probably the most common reason is an allergic reaction to nickel. Nickel is used in the hardening process of stainless steel, aluminum and sapphire crystal.

>>In fact, it is estimated that more than 18 percent of people in North America are allergic to nickel, including 11 million children in the U.S.<<

A visit to an allergist or dermatologist will get it cleared up. They may recommend you reduce contact, use a cover etc. Please let us know what the diagnosis is. 😀
