Unable to drag and drop files from Safari download list to other platforms

For about a month ago, since then I am experiencing this issue. Once I have download a file using my safari browser, if I drag the file from the download list that appears on the right hand corner of the screen next to share, and try to drop it to any places that allow file drag and drop upload, or even to send that file via WhatsApp, the file appears to be either not accepted by the platform or some platform even says that the files is corrupted, and some even say that this format is not compatible.

But the file downloads in the download folder and if tried to upload from the download folder, it works like magic.

i have tried several things, like uninstalling all the extensions, resetting the browser and so on, still unable to solve the problem.

I would deeply appreciate if the community helps me out with that.

Thank you!

Hello,

Thank you for your kind response.

I agree with you on all of those things too.

Here are the things that works,

  1. If clicked to open the file directly from the download list, it works.
  2. If clicked to open the file from the Download folder, it works.
  3. If dragged and dropped the file from the download folder, it works.

What only doesn't work is the DAD from the download list, and I totally don't get it why! I hope you understand, when we are in the middle of a work, on one tab we would download something, and on the other tab we have something opened where we need to upload that instantly. That saves a lot of time and effort, it becomes a really problem when I have to do the extra work to open the download folder and DAD from there.

I hope you would understand why it is important for me.

Thank you.

Hey,

Sounds like Safari’s download handling might be causing some weird issues with the file associations when you try to drag and drop directly from the download list. When you drag from the download list, Safari might be applying some temporary extension or weird metadata to the file that messes with how other platforms recognize it. Try this: after you download the file, open your Downloads folder, then drag the file from there instead of the list. This way you bypass any of those weird extensions that Safari might be adding during the drag and drop process.

If that still doesn’t fix it, you could also try clearing Safari’s cache or resetting your Mac’s permissions on the Downloads folder. That’s usually where the problem lies.
