How to resolve high CPU usage by corespotlightd on MacBook Pro?

I, like many others, continue to have corespotlightd take over my computer - over 400% CPU. My computer is largely unusable. Currently I have a MacBook Pro G4 and I had the same problem with my previous Intel MacBook Pro. Has anyone had any meaningful feedback from Apple on 1) how to address this in the short term and 2) if they are working on the problem? Thanks.
