After upgrading to macOS 15.3 my Canon Pixma G7020 no longer works on my MacBook Pro network

upgrading to OS 15.3 my Canon Pixma G7020 no longer works on my network. I can see it on my MacBook Pro network, but it will not set up as a usable printer. Has anybody else had trouble with that particular printer?

This is the message I got several times trying to connect to my Canon printer and any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

The Canon G7020 is listed as a supported model in About AirPrint – Apple Support (UK) (en-gb edition, March 19, 2025). This means that it should work with the latest macOS versions without the need for additional printer drivers when connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) as a Mac computer. Printing should also be possible from an iPhone/iPad without extra apps.

AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections, so you could choose to connect the printer wirelessly or use an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router. An Ethernet printer connection may be more stable.

Any change if you try a full power-cycle sequence (do not forget the router)?

  • Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac, and all other devices/computers.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the router.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the printer.
  • Wait a minute or two.
  • Power on the Mac and all other devices/computers.

Yeah, you're not alone—macOS 15.3 seems to be breaking network printing for some Canon models like the G7020. Try deleting the printer, resetting the printing system (in System Settings > Printers), then re-adding it; if that doesn't work, check Canon’s site for updated drivers.
