DYMO printer works one day, not the next

Received this error message this morning - "WFBackgroundShortcutRunner-ErrorDomain error 0"

I followed the advice on the closed chat but not resolved.

I also used DYMO support article - cleared the queue, removed from Printers, unplugged, reconnected etc. No resolution.

Grateful as ever, thanks

That error could be tied to macOS's automation or background services, likely from a DYMO Label Software shortcut or script trying to run, but failing silently. It’s not a DYMO-specific error, per se — it’s a macOS framework issue that DYMO’s app or shortcut may be triggering.

Here’s what I’d recommend doing to troubleshoot this from both a macOS and DYMO integration angle:

Start by Checking for Login Items / Shortcuts

  • Open System Settings > General > Login Items and see if DYMO is listed under either "Open at Login" or "Background Items."
  • If DYMO-related automation or shortcuts are listed (e.g., from Automator or Shortcuts app), try disabling them temporarily.

Delete Saved DYMO Shortcuts (if any)

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on your Mac.
  2. Look for anything DYMO-related in your personal or gallery shortcuts.
  3. If found, delete or disable them — one may be corrupted or failing to execute properly.

Reinstall DYMO Software Cleanly

  1. Go to /Library/Printers/ and delete any DYMO folders.
  2. Also check /Library/PreferencePanes/ and remove anything DYMO-related.
  3. Then reinstall the latest DYMO software (depending on your model, LabelWriter Software or DYMO Connect) from their official site.

Reset the Mac's Printing System

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or control-click) in the Printers list and choose “Reset printing system…”
  3. After resetting, add the DYMO printer again and test with a known working label file.

Check USB Hub / Cable (if USB-connected)

  • DYMO printers are picky with power and USB signal integrity.
  • Directly plug into a USB-A port on an Intel Mac or via a powered hub for Apple Silicon Macs.
  • Avoid unpowered USB-C adapters, especially cheap ones.
