Camera on MacBook Pro (2020) doesn't work, just shows black screen

My macbook camera is not working and is only giving me a black screen when I go to use it in apps like Zoom or Photobooth. The green light is also always on, regardless of if an app is accessing the camera or not, and will remain on even when I shut down the device.

  • I've restarted a few times and have fully updated my software.
  • I've checked and all permissions for the camera are on and its not being restricted by screen time
  • I've used Apple Diagnostics and have been given the code NDC001 saying there may be an issue with the camera, and code VFD001 saying there may be an issue with the display.
  • Ive also checked the system information and its definitely recognising the camera under the hardware tab.

Ideally i'd love some advice on some other steps to fix without needing to bring it into a repair shop

Thanks!

Hi,

Try to contact Apple Support and ask about the circumstance of your internal camera.

Official Apple Support

If it doesn't help, I think you should take your MacBook Pro to your local retail AppleStore, Genius Bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined your MacBook Pro there since your MacBook Pro has hardware related issues.

Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

Apple Authorized Service Provider Program - Official Apple Support
