TvOS 18.4 / Sequoia 15.4, Home Sharing Problems!

Hi All,

I recently updated all my Apple devices to the latest versions (tvOS 18.4, sequoia 15.4, etc.), and am now having a major issue with music!

Prior to this update (I mean for years) I have been able to access my music library through the Home Sharing / Computers app and play the content through my sound system. After updating my AppleTVs and my Mac to the latest versions this week, the Computers app in tvOS does not see any music files on my Mac. Other than the updates, there were no changes. This is a 100% Apple software problem.

I can access my full library through my iPhone (iOS 18.4). I can play the content through my phone to AppleTV through AirPlay. But the direct connection between my Mac and AppleTV has been broken by the newest updates.

I have gone through all of the basic and often recommended troubleshooting steps (restarted, logged out of accounts, fresh installs, etc.) and nothing worked. If anyone wants to offer suggestions, I’m open to seeing if there is anything I haven’t attempted, but I think I’ve exhausted what I can do.

This is a real issue for several others too, I am guessing.

Apple, please check it out and fix this!

I can’t replicate this issue. The Computers app on tvOS 18.4 seems to see and play my Home Sharing library music files just fine. (Video files too.)

Have you tried turning off Home Sharing on the Mac, quit the System Settings app, then turning it on again?

I'm having the same problem. I have over 2,000 movies in my home media library that I can no longer watch on my AppleTVs. It can see that there IS a library (and updates the name of that library whenever I change it on my Mac), but it says "Computer not on the same network" which it definitely is.

Update, I have resolved issues as follows:

  1. Issue - Apple TV Computers App not connecting to Home Sharing Libraries - Resolution Forget Network for Wifi, reconnect, restart. If that does not work factory reset Apple TV, definitely works.
  2. Issue - iTunes Remote app not connecting to Home Sharing Libraries - Reset network settings, re-enter wifi and restart iPhone/iPad again.

Thanks to Klajd and the Apple support team who did a great job of fault finding and determining resolution.

I appreciate the ideas, but none of the steps work. I have done everything short of resetting the AppleTVs to factory settings, which is too much of a PITA for the issue. I have turned off and on home sharing at the mac and AppleTVs. I’ve tried the WiFi suggestion. I changed my AppleId password, logged out and back into everything. No change in status.

tvOS 18.4 sees a Mac, but not the media. The Mac sees it and plays it. My iPhone sees the library on the Mac and can play it too. Apple broke it.

I sent a complaint to the link that was shared. So we will see if anything comes of it.

hopefully they restore it with the next one.

I understand your frustration, I felt the same way. The reset of the Apple TV was a pain and took an hour out of my life setting everything back up again. But, apart from the fact the access to the Mac media worked again, all the other apps seem to behave better, probably because I have never reset it since new 4 years ago. Having access to my media library on all devices is really important to me, I basically use the Apple TV to remote my lossless music and airplay it my Marantz amp, anything else just sounds garbage! Hope you get fixed!
