IMovie on Mac: sharing clips suddenly stopped working

I've been chopping up some clips from an old home movie and doing the copy and save and opening a new project and pasting. Also once I successfully used the share file function

Today, when I cut or copy a 4 minute clip, and then paste to either a new file or project, the entire project is copied.

I checked my memory and that's not a problem. Quit iMovie and that didn't fix it.

Wondering if the iMovie app version on your Mac needs updating ...

If there are updates, they are generally waiting to be installed from the App Store

(ie: In App Store's side menu > click "Updates" to see if any are waiting.)

HI,

To cover the bases, one copies an edited clip from one project to another by selecting the clip in Project 1, then doing Edit/Copy, and then opening Project 2 and doing Edit/Paste into the time line of Project 2. If you have done that and still the entire project, rather than just the selected clip, copies over then try deleting preferences.

To delete preferences: Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete

preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. (To reopen your old library close iMovie and go to your Movie folder or wherever you have your old

iMovie library stored. Double click on the library’s icon.  iMovie will open in that library.) Now see if the copy feature works properly. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.
