Silence texts from an unknown number

The iPhone's SILENCE UNKNOWN CALLERS setting for phone calls is great, because it doesn't bother me every time a spam phone call comes in, but it does send the caller to voicemail, so if it is someone important calling from an unknown number (ie a new potential client is calling for work), I'll get the message.

Is there a way to duplicate this feature for spam texts? I don't want the texts completely blocked, because every once in a while they are important, but I don't want notifications going off every time a spam text comes through (whereas I DO want the notification when someone in my contacts is texting me). I have turned on FILTER UNKNOWN SENDERS in settings, and it seems to do absolutely nothing.

I also get the alerts on my Apple Watch, and its messages notification is set to MIRROR MY IPHONE.

Has anyone been able to solve this problem? I am probably getting a phishing or political text every 20 minutes, and it is driving me crazy.
