Apple Watch Series 10 running watchOS 11.3.1 the temperature complication has ceased to update again

I experienced the temperature complication failing to update before the latest iOS update. A solution that can no longer be found made improvements at that time. Unfortunately, a new update occurred before the situation settled down properly.

With the latest update, the Watch temperature display indicated a lower temperature than my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Over a few weeks, the situation has deteriorated. Tapping the Watch temperature display could reset but not necessarily to the correct temperature. Now it is frozen, always showing three degrees Celsius, failing to update when tapped.

Hello, IdrisSeabright. Thank you for your input.

Before posting, the complication on the Watch had been removed and replaced. This resulted in a very brief ability to reset the Temperature display. Following repeated failures to reset the complication, I determined more action was essential.

Following the above-mentioned steps, I removed the complication from the Watch and the Accuweather App from the iPhone. After re-installing the app and enabling it on the Watch, I experienced some success until the update to the iPhone OS seemingly terminated the functionality. This update was the only known change that had occurred and potentially caused the issue.

Your suggestion spurred me to take further action. I repeated the above process, initially removing the complication and then the app.

I opted for the cost-free installation of the Accuweather App. However, after submitting my email address and the required confirmation, the process proceeded with a payment process. I subsequently abandoned this process as I had no intention of paying for the upgrade installation.

Once more, I commenced the installation process anew. Each selection was meticulously made, and the process was halted after the email address stage. I deemed the waiting time excessive and, once again, clicked on the email address input field.

This action triggered the payment process.

Subsequently, after removing the complication from the watch, it was restarted. Similarly, after removing the app from the iPhone, it was restarted.

Once more, I started over, and the process again halted after the email address stage.

My patience and clicking-finger inaction were rewarded with successfully completing the app installation without needing to complete the payment process.

The watch already had Accuweather installed, necessitating only activating the switch to ‘Show on Watch’.

This resulted in the complication area remaining blank. After an extended wait, a white gearwheel appeared. It took until the following morning before a temperature was displayed. Upon checking Accuweather on the iPhone, I tapped the complication on the watch, which updated but was one degree out of sync with the watch’s display. A subsequent check on both temperature displays revealed that they both required tapping to update and this time, they were found to be satisfactorily synchronised.

Later rechecking the temperature synchronisation, first observing the Watch temperature and then opening the iPhone app resulted in the app immediately updating to the same temperature as the Watch.

On other settings, Accuweather Location Settings are set to Always.

Hopefully, the issue is resolved.

Upgrading from Watch 6 to Watch 10 required complications reorganisation on the Infograph Face.

The loss of the Calendar, radial text-on-a-curve, removed that complication, and required a decision to remove the least useful complication from the Watch 10 Infograph Face.

I found Accuweather to be most often accurate, and have used it for the last couple of years.

The Watch upgrade has also made at least one other change without my involvement. Apple replaced the original setting of the Apple Weather complication in Watch 6 with Accuweather's complication in Watch 10.

The Temperatures on iPhone and Watch remain in sync.

Before using Accuweather, Apple Weather and its complication was stable in in use.

While using Watch 6, problems commenced earlier than those mentioned in my first post.

On a few occasions, the Accuweater complication was removed and replaced. All events resulted in some relatively short-lived improvements.

As reported, the iOS 11.3.1 update seemed to be the only other aspect possibly affecting the situation.

This is an update on the situation in this discussion today, 13 April 2025.

When I awoke at 04:00 this morning, my Watch 10 (External Ambient) Temperature Complication showed 20°C.

Accuweather provides this reading on my iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is passed to the Watch 10.

During the last few days, taping the complication to synchronise with the iPhone reading has been necessary.

Today, synchronisation is no longer possible.

The iPhone Complication was reading 8°C (Feels Like 6°C). A tap on the Watch Complication changes the 20°C reading to 15°C, but returning to the Watch Face, it still shows 20°C.

Since my previous actions have lasted less than a week, it seems pointless to repeat the exercise.

I contacted Apple Support, and during a lengthy discussion, they remotely connected to my iPhone and Watch and ran some tests. My understanding is that no issues were found, so we moved on to troubleshooting.

Then they requested Location Services be changed to never and then back to always and the Wi-Fi be switched off and then back on, leaving a thirty second pause between both sets of actions.

During my atempts to troubleshoot both sets of these actions had been carried out at least on two different occasions.

However, I cannot remember the precise point when these were actioned, and certainly a full thirty second pause did not take place.

The outcome returned the situation to that expected, both devices were in synch. However, typing that triggered me to open Accuweather on the iPhone to find it was one degree cooler than the Watch. Tapping the watch complication showed the same as the watchface, and when that was tapped it dropped to match the iPhone. It seems that because what has been done, apart from the remote testing, has been done already, a touch of the IYADWYHADYWAGWYHAG plague [If You Always Do What You Have Always Done You Will Always Get What You Have Always Got].

I understand that if this is not resolved it will be escalated to a higher level.

This is a further update, dated 16 April 2025, on synchronising Accuweather between iPhone and Watch.

Synchronisation deteriorated similarly to the last four resolution attempts.

In parallel with the latest Apple Guided version, Accuweather forecasts were found to be unusually wide of the mark. This caused me to reconsider its synchronising abilities and continued use of the Accuweather app. I removed this software from the Watch and iPhone and set up the Weather and Radar app.

The iPhone Weather and Radar displays the current external ambient temperature, the Feels Like temperature, and the prominent weather aspect. One tap reveals an extensive list of Radar maps covering rainfall, temperature, wind, lightning and weather news. App set-up is also available.

When the complication is tapped, the Watch is set to open, displaying temperatures that promptly synchronise. Three icons across the bottom of the display relate to pressure(?), wind, and humidity, and tapping these expands their relevant details. When displaying abbreviated conditions of interest in three separate areas of the UK, I became trapped, the only exit being to hit the control knob and start over. I am still on the learning curve, and provided it proves reasonably accurate, this app will likely remain in situ for some time.

Like many other apps, Weather and Radar relies on advertising to offset cost free use. Advert space and positioning are reasonable.

This is another update, on 18 April 2025, on synchronising Accuweather between iPhone and Watch.

In my update on 16 April 2025, I refer to 'Apple guided version' which cold be better expressed as 'Apple Guided resolution'. Also I incorrectly suggested a weather feature as repersenting Pressure. After improving the readability of my watch I found that it related Daily Air Quality Index [DAQI].

I also found that after a tap on the Weather and Radar complication, each tap in the centre of the watch face reveals a different feature. Alternatively, if it is activated/set up, enjoy using the double tap between index finger and thumb to navigate.

For me the good news is that the first central tap synchronises the temperature with Weather and Radar on the iPhone. The icing on the cake is the Wind Direction and Speed feature.
