Numbers Stock Prices Lookups Only Being Updated After Close

Many people have already complained about this. Though I am not looking for answers, I am simply putting this out there in the hope that Apple sees it, along with the other hundreds of reports that have already been made on this community. I use Numbers for many things, including my financial portfolios. I love everything about it except... Well, there is a delay in getting those darn stock prices.


So hopefully, Apple sees how many people actually need this. Many have converted to Google Sheets as a results. Both of my sons are huge Apple fans and yet they are not using Numbers. That's too bad!


Please Apple, let's fix this and stay competitive.

When the feature was first rolled out it did have intraday (delayed) prices. Then Yahoo! including Yahoo! Finance (the data provider) was acquired by new owners, and that was the end of that. Probably some cost considerations (data is not free).


If you're trying to use any spreadsheet software (not just Numbers) for portfolio-tracking purposes that require up-to-the minute data then you might be using the wrong tool. There are far reliable options available than spreadsheets.

Thanks for the historical lesson... Makes total sense. Yes, data isn't free. Maybe someday, they'll find a way to revive the feature. And yes, there are far more reliable ways to do what I'm doing, but that would mean giving up on all kinds of personalizations and customizations I've built into my spreadsheets. I'm still hopeful they'll fix this... I mean, this may sound a little naive and presumptuous, but why couldn't Apple use the same API's that feed the Stock app?
