Updating from macOS Sequoia 15.3 to 15.4: Error message Installation failed

Updating from macOS Sequoia 15.3 to 15.4 after attempting update. Error message Installation failed. An error occurred while installing the selected updates.

This has happened on 2 devices so far out of 11.

All of these devices are Microsoft Intune enrolled.

The users are asked for their device password twice, then the error message pops up.

After a little research I was going to suggest to them that they delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate.plist and reboot to see if that fixes the issue. However that file does not exist on the devices for some reason.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for the information about this workaround.

However, it's not a valid solution for organisations with hundreds or thousands of users that they should individually all on their own boot their devices in safe mode and install manually like this.

There's obviously something wrong with the update, which needs to be fixed.

Reboot into Safeboot mode and try again the update.

There is noting Wrong in the update process

Just finished updating 1 M4, 1 M3 and 1 M2 machines from Sequoia 15.3.2 to the current Sequoia 15.4

Mind you, none of them are in a Managed Environment ie >> InTunes, Jamf or similar

Unfortunately, it is when Third Party Management Software is introduced that things can and do go less as well

Just saying
