When I try to record a portion of my screen with Quicktime Player, I can't drag and resize the window

In the Quicktime screenshot toolbar when attempting to select a section of the screen to record I was unable to drag & resize the section to be recorded. It was "frozen" and would only perform a full screen recording.

I was able to find a solution which may help others. This issue has been posted before (advice was to restart which didn't work for me) but the thread had been inactive and I was unable to post a reply in that thread.

Try: System Settings- Display- and select default.

I had previously changed to a "Larger Text" icon option in the Display menu. When I changed back to default the issue resolved and I was again able to select a section of the screen and record.
