MacBook Pro not recognizing external DVD player -
I’m using a MacBook Pro (2021) with macOS Ventura (15.3.2), and my external portable Blu-ray/DVD drive isn’t recognized in Finder or on the Desktop. I’ve tried both CDs and DVDs, but nothing appears.
Interestingly, the same drive works perfectly on my older MacBook Pro (2017), allowing me to access and copy files without issue.
I reached out to Apple Support today, and the advisor suggested checking with the manufacturer (Dainty) for an updated driver. He also mentioned that this is considered “old tech.” Initially, he referenced the Apple USB SuperDrive as an alternative, but then noted that it’s no longer available in the Apple Store.
I’m posting here in hopes that Apple will address this in a future update, ensuring that portable disk drives remain compatible. Many people still have disks with valuable content that need to be transferred to a computer, external storage, or the cloud.
For now, I'm just using the older computer to get the files off the disks.
