Import Apple Music m4p to Garageband

I am trying to import a downloaded song from Apple Music to GarageBand in order to slow tempo and learn piano segments. Tried to convert m4p to mp3 via VLC without success. The mp3 converts as an empty file? Any other options appreciated.
