Midi Region suddenly deleted after recording, unretrievable via undo

As the title implies, somehow all regions of a midi track have mysteriously vanished immediately after recording. Undo doesn't retrieve them but works fine otherwise. So far I've tried:

  • Checking if the regions in question are 'under' regions on other tracks
  • Reopening the project
  • Reverting the project.

This has happened a few times now and it's immensely frustrating as it's setting back my progress significantly.

Yoyoben,

This has definitely happened to me as well. I could be wrong but I think what happens is that the Mac is not looking at Logic Pro while hitting CMD+Z so while it feels like it is not working, it is still occuring in the background

My fix is a simple restart of the application or the computer. Worst case scenario...uninstall and reinstall Logic Pro.

I frequently save my sessions but for some reason the only backup available to revert to was just after the regions were deleted. I don't recall saving manually, so I made a copy and closed the original without saving. The regions are still gone in both sessions.

Increase the number of auto-backup versions:

Settings > General > Auto Backup

You should save your projects manually as often as you can. It should be a haptic automatism to press Command+S.

so I made a copy

If you "copy" a project with save as or save a copy as the revert option doesn't work anymore.

and closed the original without saving.

If you close a project without saving it, all the work you have done so far will be lost.

Backups have always been set to last 10 alternative versions, but there was only one backup I could revert to. This is also an older project with plenty of saves to revert to. I made a copy using 'save as', not using 'save' or 'save as copy'. If you're saying that 'save as' gets rid of all the backups then what's the point of the backups at all? Seems counter-intuitive.

As I mentioned, I frequently save my sessions and I use the keyboard shortcut. I just pointed out that I didn't save manually after the regions were deleted to try and load the project before that happened.

I'm aware closing the project without saving means progress is lost. Again, I did this to try and load the session to before the regions were deleted.
