How do I restore missing iCloud Drive files on my MacBook?

I accidentally deleted an iCloud Drive from my iPhone that synced to my Macbook. As a result, the entire desktop on my Macbook went missing. How do I restore the files that is missing from my Macbook?

If you did not empty the trash or permanently delete, simply undo the move / restore from trash. Otherwise, you’ll need to recover from your backup.
