Drop Cap vertical alignment problem in two column documents with "Widows and Orphans checked.
I'm writing a two column Pages article that uses Drop Caps and found, what I believe is, a bug. This happens when "Prevent Widows and Orphans" is checked. When a paragraph using a Drop Cap starts in the left column, and that paragraph ends with an orphan line, the two lines that appear in the right column do not start at the top of the column. Instead they are aligned vertically with the Drop Cap that started that column. Here is an example:
In the top image the red paragraph continues at the top of the second column. However if the short second paragraph (in bold) is removed, that makes the red paragraph end with an orphan line, and the paragraph continues in the second column inline vertically with the bottom of the drop cap.
If you want to play with this simple pages document you can download it HERE.
I'm curious if others have experienced this problem. It's been around a long time. I first found it on Pages 10.1/Mojave 10.14.6 on a 27" iMac 2013 (Love that big screen!) but hadn't found a way to recreate it reliability. I recently tried it on a new 13" Mac Air M3/Pages 14.3 and it still was happening. I finally traced the problem to paragraphs that end with an orphan line and have "Prevent Widows and Orphans" checked. I did send in a bug report to Apple.
Has anyone found a workaround without adding extra lines or messing with line and/or paragraph spacing?
