What is my Airdrop 'waiting' for exactly?

I have superfast broadband, Airdrop is 'waiting' (hanging) until I switch off the phone or the macbook, when the warning changes to 'No people found nearby' indicating that it can find the hardware so why isn't using it software and transferring the documents.

Or flagging up 'airdrop declined' but by who exactly? I'm airdropping between my own gadgets smh.

Then it takes about 10 minutes to drop 6 jpegs.

Is there some problem with airdropping now? As it has become inconsistent and unreliable lately and used todrop 100 jpegs on about 10 seconds, now it's mostly doing nothing, waiting or declining.

Is there anyway to reset or speed up? Thanks

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

Thanks for your input Leroy,

I probably should have mentioned (as the option didn't appear while posting) that I'm using iPhone 13 (up to date) where the 'waiting' is occurring, whereas Macbook to iPhone isn't really an issue.

I've tried rebooting everything, checking settings etc and all that appears ok.
