Folders in icloud drive got completely empty

I got a new macbook pro yesterday and after I transferred data from my old macbook air through the migration app, all my files inside the folders in icloud drive went missing. I don’t see the files on iphone or ipad icloud drive. My folders are empty. Pdf docs vanished. Is there a way to bring them back or should I use google drive and nor trust icloud anymore?
