Why is my Apple Pencil not connecting to my iPad Pro?

I have a new ipad pro 13" M4, and a used apple pencil. The pencil connects to old ipad and shows 80% charge. I asked the old ipad to forget that device. I've restarted with the pencil attached, still doesn't show as an available device on bluetooth. Thanks in advance!

Ensure that you choose the correct Apple Pencil for your chosen iPad - as they are not interchangeable. Here is the definitive compatibility list:

The iPad Pro M4 supports only the new Apple Pencil Pro and the low-cost USB-C Pencil. Older first and second generation Pencils are unusable with your iPad.
