How do I recover missing emails and prevent future disappearance on my Mail app?

In February I noticed I was not receiving all my emails. Today all emails appeared from that time period. When I deleted the ones I did not want to keep as trash, all emails disappeared except the sent ones. I have changed my password. What should I do now?
